A Neck With A Statement

Here in Kansas City we have a thing called First Fridays. On the first Friday of every month, tons of galleries and studios in our Crossroads District open up in the evening. There's a lot of people, a lot of really cool art, and a lot of drinking. Recipe for a good time if you ask me!

So I decide I need a statement necklace to wear for my appearance in the art world
Cuz you know, I'm a big deal
Really

I pulled out some scrap knits from old knit shirts I cut up and whipped up this:

And what does every girl need to go with a killer necklace for a night out??
That's right, a matching bag of course!

I didn't put any type of liner in it, because it only gets used when I wear the necklace.
Not bad for about 45 mins worth of my time.
Made me feel "artsy fartsy" for an evening *wink*

Sweet Smelling Panties

Do you like your panty drawer to smell nice?
Who doesn't, right?

Last September I made a couple pretty smelling sachets for my mother for her birthday. So when Christmas came around, I thought, what a great, EASY, project for my grandmother, aunt, and all my female in-laws.

I wish I had better pictures of these. Unfortunately, like most of my previous projects, I didn't have a blog on my mind when taking these pictures, but they still work and you get the idea :)

They smelled so lovely and were a big hit!

Past Projects

This is the time of year that I start doing projects around my house.
I paint.
I create art for my walls.
I do home improvement projects that we've never gotten around to.
I get very busy.

So, I will be sharing some of my previous projects.
Let's start, shall we?

Last fall I took the kiddo to get a new backpack for school. We went to Target. I gotta admit, I kinda sorta dropped the ball on getting a backpack before the aisle was completely picked over. In other words, there was nothing. I felt like I failed her. But wait, is that what I think it is? One lonely pink backpack at the end of the row, surrounded by boy backpacks! We must go rescue it and take it home! Crisis averted....or so I think.

At the checkout, the cashier noticed a giant slash down the front that we must have missed. It looked like it lost a fight with a box cutter. Poor pink backpack. So what option do I have now? Buy an ugly, plain, gray backpack for my 4th grade girl. Devastation at its finest.

So here it is....such a sad backpack

I put my needle and thread to work, and did my best to spruce her up!

That's more like it! Mommy failure averted!

The woes of a leaky ceiling

So last spring Mr. Perfect and I go away for 9 days on our honeymoon, yay!

We come home to this, boo!

What a lovely water stain on the ceiling of our kitchen. Before we could do anything about it, it rained more, a lot more, and got bigger. Without a lot of ANY complaining, Mr. Perfect joyfully crawled up in the attic from the other end of the house (which is also up a level) and placed a giant roasting pan on the ceiling to catch any further drips. Patiently, we waited until the next downpour, which happened right in the middle of him cooking dinner, and he crawled up there again to find the leak. Luckily a little tar on the roof fixed the leak!

Fast forward, a YEAR and the leak is still there. See previous post for an explanation on my laziness...it's a disease that curses me. Well now this stain is getting on my nerves and since the weather is warmer I have no excuse to ignore it anymore. So I got out my drop cloths and kilz and went to work

And now I have this!!

A nice fresh ceiling with no water stain! Ahhh. The whole 15 minutes it took to do that was painful wasn't so bad afterall.

I'm already lazy...

So I start this blog a week ago....
....and FAIL to post!

Am I lazy? Yes!
Do I procrastinate? Yes!
Am I having a hard time finding motivation? Yes!

Oh well, guess I'll get it together soon enough.

In the mean time, I found this video and had to share.
This woman spent 6 YEARS making a prom dress for her daughter out of Starburst wrappers!
Talk about commitment...that I could never have

Hello Blog World

Hello everyone!
And by "everyone", I mean no one, because I have no followers yet :(
Except probably my mom...hi mom!
BUT, I will eventually!!

So, this is obviously my first blog post. I'm not sure how good I'm going to be at blogging, but I'll give it a shot. The blog is supposed to be about my sewing adventures, but it will probably involve some of me and my magical life as well. It's actually not that magical...I sleep...I eat...I hang out and play Rockband...I go to work (ugh)...and I sew! The sewing soothes me, mostly. Sometimes I want to throw my project in the trash and slam a 6 pack of beer, but most of the time sewing is a good thing. There is a certain amount of satisfaction in being able to take a pile of fabric and turn in into something beautiful and useful. Sometimes I make clothes for myself (or repurpose old clothes that I hate) but I mostly make bags and accessories.

So stick with me my dear followers (mom). I'm going to try and post a couple times a week and we'll see where this goes!
